Helsingin Yliopistokiinteistöt Oy (HYK), fully owned by University of Helsinki, has sold three university properties in Helsinki to Hemsö. The assets are located in the Helsinki city centre (Nervanderinkatu 13, Pohjoinen Rautatiekatu 9 and Haapaniemenkatu 6).
All three assets are fully leased to University of the Arts Helsinki. Sibelius Academy occupies two of the assets and the third asset is occupied by Theatre Academy. In total, the assets comprise a floor area of approximately 24,500 sqm.
The deal was one of the largest educational property transactions conducted in Finland.
Newsec acted as commercial advisor and Eversheds as legal advisor for the vendor in the transaction. Newsec has also previously advised HYK in the divestment of its non-core properties.
Jukka Kumara, Managing Director at HYK says: "The deal was in line with HYK's strategy. The company will now focus on investments related to the space needs of its owner, University of Helsinki."
